Gobi Desert has always been a unique travel destination in Mongolia. It offers varying yet dramatic landscapes ranging from high mountains to sand dunes, wide plains and expansive steppes. It also harhours rare animals species such as snow leopard and Gobi bear. The discovery of dinosaur fossils in 1922 had made the desert even more exciting. The hospitality of the nomadic families in the desert is probably one of the most memorable experiences.

DAY 1. Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia with airport transfer to hotel. City sightseeing tour.

DAY 2. Ikh Gazarin Chuluu
Embark on an overland journey to the Gobi Desert. Through the rugged terrain, you will be greeted with stunning landscapes and picture perfect sceneries.
Ikh Gazarin Chuluu is an interesting area where unusual rock formations and granite pinnacles stick out in the middle of the dusty plains. Spend half a day exploring caves and the area before continuing journey southwards towards Tsagaan Survagan.

DAY 3. Tsagaan Survagan
Tsagaan Survagan has interesting landscape as well. Different minerals giving rise to different colours form the face of the cliffs. You will be impressed with this beautiful natural features.

DAY 4. Yolyn Am
The dramatic and unique scenery in Yolyn Am with metres thick ice stuck in the valley all year round is one of the interesting sights in Gobi Desert. A day hike is involved to reach the valley.

DAY 5. Bayanzag
Bayanzag houses some of the famous archeological sites where the first dinosaur fossils and eggs shell were discovered in 1921. The beauty of the place makes an interesting visit.

DAY 6. Gurvansaikhan Mountain range
The three gorgeous ridges in the Gurvansaikhan Mountain range, which sit majestically in the desert, offer excellent trekking opportunities. Standing 2548 metres above sea level, it is an easy yet exciting trip to the peak where the vastness of the Gobi Desert stretches further than what your naked eyes can see. The view from the top is simply magnificent!

DAY 7. Khongoryn Els
Khongoryn Els are some of the largest sand dunes in Mongolia, where it stretches for 180 kilometres across the desert. Stomping around the sand dunes with like-minded companions is truly memorable.

DAY 8. near Arvaikheer
A full day of travelling to cover the vast distance between southern Gobi and Kharkhorin - the ancient capital of Mongolia.

DAY 9. Kharkhorin
Once the ancient capital that served Chinggis Khan and his vast Mongolia Empire, Kharkhorin has now become a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. Visit the magnificent Erdene Zuu monastery and enjoy the majestic ancient architecture. A four-hour horse riding experience is included.

DAY 10. & DAY 11. Terelj
Another long drive before arriving in Ulaanbaatar. Transit to Terelj. Terelj offers excellent hiking opportunities and horse riding through cooling alpine scenery. Swimming in icy river is definitely worth a try. Free and easy in Terelj.

DAY 12. Ulaanbaatar
Last minute souvenir shopping in Ulaanbaatar, checking emails, doing laundry, dining in restaurants are some of the things you can engage before heading home. Free and easy in the capital city.

(Please take note that late meals are often a norm in some days due to long travelling distances between ger resorts. Do expect to have your dinner at close to twelve midnight!) |
